FAQ

01. - What is a SAD and what is it for?

+

The SAD or Single Administrative Document is an import or export declaration before the customs authorities, which provides information about the product and serves as the basis for the corresponding tax declaration. The SAD must accompany the goods at all times to comply with customs formalities. The exporter must provide it together with his sales invoice to the AEAT to justify the VAT exemption as the goods are destined for export. The importer must pay the amount of the customs debt (VAT and customs duty) detailed in the SAD to the AEAT.

02. - What do I have to do to carry out intra-community transactions?

+

For both intra-Community deliveries and acquisitions, all companies must first register in the Register of Intra-Community Operators (RIO), called the VIES Census, which will provide them with a special tax identification number (NIF) for VAT, or an intra-Community operator number.

03. - What is the deadline for re-exporting goods that were exported under the temporary export regime?

+

The initial term is 3 years, although it may be extended depending on special circumstances.

Goods that after being initially exported out of the customs territory as European Union goods and are reintroduced and declared for release for free circulation within the aforementioned period, are exempt from the payment of import duties.

04. - How can I check the tariff heading of my goods and whether it is valid?

+

The tariff heading can be checked in the TARIC database of the European Union:

05. - How does the insurance work?

+

It is a transport coverage that covers possible risks that could have negative consequences for both the goods and the means of transport. The insurance is calculated based on the invoice value plus part of the cost of the entire transport.

06. - What is the VGM (Verify Gross Mass)?

+

It is the gross weight of the cargo, including the weight of the material, packaging and tare weight of the container. The shipper of the container is obliged to provide the VGM of the entire container, with a deadline prior to shipment. There are two ways to obtain it*:

- Weigh the container after completion of filling and sealing.

- Weigh all the goods, including the weight of pallets, packaging and stowage material, before filling the container, and then add the tare weight of the container to the total goods.

* The weight must always be measured with an approved and certified weighing tool.

07. - What are the WAIVERS?

+

This is a mandatory and essential document to be able to export to certain African countries. This document must include the data of both the exporter and the importer, in addition to all the data concerning the shipment (full container, groupage, scales, types of goods and value). The transmission of all this information in the WAIVER must be done before the arrival of the ship at the destination harbor. The procedure has an additional cost and it can be carried out either by the exporter or the importer.
